Hey, I'm Shyam.I'm a first-year PhD student at Carnegie Mellon University, where I study how AI is reshaping the way people build software.
I'm part of the Software and Societal Systems Department in the School of Computer Science, advised by Bogdan Vasilescu. As AI becomes part of everyday software development, my work aims to understand, evaluate, and build intelligent systems that reshape how people create software. I work at the intersection of AI, Software Engineering, and HCI, where I study how coding agents change developer workflows, evaluate human–AI programming interaction, and build socially-aware coding agents that collaborate with developers rather than replace them. My goal is to create AI tools that make software engineering more effective, sustainable, and aligned with human needs.
I earned my undergraduate degree in Computer Science from the University of California, Davis and was fortunate to have received the Ghausi Medal, the highest honor bestowed upon one student by the College of Engineering. - Apr 2026Attended the International Conference on Software Engineering (ICSE) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where we presented two papers at MSR 2026: AI IDEs or Autonomous Agents? won a Distinguished Paper Award and the Best Presentation Award, and Speed at the Cost of Quality won a Distinguished Paper Award.
